What is an Erasmus+ Traineeship?

Un Erasmus+ Traineeship son las prácticas profesionales financiadas por la Unión Europea
A work station to gain experience and improve your professional skills.

An Erasmus+ traineeship It is a professional practice that you can carry out in another European country, through the partial financing of a special program to support the education and training of students from the European Union.

This program is aimed at advanced university students or recent graduates who wish to have real work experience in their study areas, but in another country.

The practices can be carried out in private companies, public institutions, NGOs or universities, and have a usual duration of between 2 and 12 months.

Your main objective is to improve the employment of European students, create scopes for language improvement and develop new global job skills among young students.

The Erasmus+ program agreements are concluded between universities and private companies and institutions. Therefore, to register you must contact the International Office at your university.

How to apply for Erasmus+ Traineeship?

From the university there is the final agreement: this is how your postulation is managed.

As we mentioned, the first step to apply for a traineeship with Erasmus + funding is through your university.

Therefore, here we give you everything you need to do to achieve it:

  1. Go to the International Office at your university: Information about active searches and internal requirements to obtain a plaza.
  2. Search for the company or institution to carry out your practices: You can do it for your account or with help from your university (there are websites that can help you in your search)
  3. Prepare the necessary documentation: Curriculum Vitae (preferably in Europass format), Letter of motivation adapted to the post, Language certificates if you have and Training Agreement or practice agreement (signed by you, the company and your university).
  4. Request the plaza and validate your agreement at the university: Once accepted by the company, you must send the agreement to the university for its official approval. This document is key to receiving economic aid and academic recognition.
  5. Get Erasmus+ financial assistance: After the approval of the agreement, your university processes the Erasmus+ scholarship, which covers part of the stay expenses.
  6. ¡Prepárate para el viaje! To do this, take out medical and civil liability insurance, apply for local registration (if the country requires it), look for accommodation in advance and check whether the company offers logistical or housing assistance.

What is the financial aid offered by Erasmus+?

The financial aid from this program is variable and depends on the country you select for your professional practice and the duration it will last.

For example, if you are Spanish and carry out your practice in Germany, the Netherlands or Ireland, you can access amounts of between €640 and €710 per month.

However, if you stay in Portugal, Italy or Greece you will get between €600 and €650 per month.

The average amount varies between €600 and €710 per month and is compatible with financial aid that provides autonomous communities or universities.

Therefore, check if you have access to complementary scholarships where you live or study.

Is it difficult to obtain Erasmus+l funding?

No, it's not difficult to achieve. This doubt is common among students and professionals who are willing to explore this opportunity.

However, you should know that you only need to complete certain formal steps and do them in time.

Next we tell you how the “selection process” works:

  1. There is no “general selection” on the part of the program. Each university has its own annual budget and, therefore, its own plazas, requirements and priority criteria (for example, students with good qualifications, languages, etc.)
  2. Planificar es la clave: As each university opens its own call for applications, it is important that you know the moment in which you must present your request (this will be 2 per year, in spring and autumn).
  3. Prepare your application: To do this, look for the host company, start with the Training Agreement and write the motivation letter, with at least 3 months in advance.
  4. You don't need a high note, but you need a well-armed project: The Erasmus+ Traineeship program is not awarded “by grades”, but by project coherence. Therefore, it will be valuable if your proposal is articulated with your area of studies and if the company can guarantee real learning.

If you meet these requirements and deliver complete documentation, It is very likely that you will receive the gown.
